A Wonderful Couple, a Georgian Country House and a Little Mischief

The Mill House Hotel in Swallowfield, near Reading, is a rather lovely setting for a Berkshire wedding. Georgian architecture, beautifully landscaped gardens and the River Loddon provide the scenery. All that's required is a happy couple, a few enthusiastic guests and, preferably, somebody who knows which end of a camera to look through.

Fortunately, we had all three.

As a Mill House Hotel wedding photographer, I love the opportunity to combine relaxed documentary photography with something a little more editorial. And when a couple has this much personality, it seems a shame to ask them to stand perfectly still and look solemn.

A Berkshire Wedding With Plenty of Personality

From the bridal preparations through to the ceremony and celebrations, this Mill House wedding had the sort of atmosphere that makes my job an absolute pleasure.

The photographs tell their own story. The preparations, the little moments of anticipation, the expressions during the ceremony and the inevitable disappearance of any remaining formality once the

celebrations get going.

I'm particularly fond of the photographs of the couple together. There's an easy confidence about them, and a willingness to enjoy the moment rather than worry

about looking perfect.

After all, perfection is terribly overrated. Personality is much more interesting.

Wedding Photography at The Mill House, Swallowfield

One of the attractions of The Mill House Hotel is the variety of photographic settings within its grounds.

The Georgian house provides architectural character, while the gardens, riverside surroundings and outdoor spaces offer opportunities for natural wedding portraits throughout the day.

The Cedar Pavilion and riverside marquee also give couples different options for their celebrations.

And when the light begins to soften towards evening, the surrounding greenery and open spaces can be especially rewarding for photography.

For couples looking for a wedding venue near Reading, Wokingham or elsewhere in Berkshire, The Mill House offers a combination of country house elegance and a relaxed atmosphere.

The venue is attractive, certainly, but the most interesting thing in any wedding photograph ought to be the people.

Otherwise, one might as well become an estate agent.

Beautiful Portraits Without the Military Manoeuvres

I've photographed weddings since 1989, following earlier work in fashion, advertising and commercial photography.

That background has shaped my approach to contemporary wedding photography: a blend of documentary observation, editorial composition and the occasional slightly mischievous idea.

I enjoy creating striking portraits, but I also believe a couple should be allowed to enjoy their wedding rather than spend half the afternoon being rearranged like furniture.

At this Mill House Hotel wedding, the couple's relaxed approach produced some wonderfully expressive photographs, including the portraits in the evening light.

It's this combination of imagination and spontaneity that you'll find throughout my editorial wedding photography portfolio.

From the Wedding Ceremony to the Evening Celebrations

A wedding doesn't stop being interesting once the formal photographs are finished. Quite the opposite.

The speeches, the conversations, the laughter and the evening celebrations are often when people reveal the most about themselves.

There's a delightful progression through this Mill House wedding gallery, from the quieter preparations to the joyful photographs of the couple outdoors and the celebrations that follow.

Some photographs are elegant, some spontaneous and a few are wonderfully exuberant.

They all belong to the same story.

Looking for a Mill House Hotel Wedding Photographer?

If you're getting married at The Mill House Hotel in Swallowfield, or planning a wedding elsewhere in Berkshire, Reading or the South East, I'd be delighted to hear about your plans.

My approach combines natural wedding photography with an editorial eye, creating photographs that are personal, imaginative and rather less predictable.

You can read a little more about me and my photographic background, explore the full wedding photography portfolio, or get in touch about your Berkshire wedding.

And don't worry. You won't be required to spend your entire wedding day smiling at a camera.

Unless, of course, you particularly enjoy that sort of thing.
