Hever Castle Weddings
A Photographer's Perspective
Hever Castle is one of those places where you arrive with your cameras and immediately start looking around for opportunities. There's certainly no shortage of them. From the beautiful old castle to the gardens, lake and rather wonderful architecture, it's a photographer's playground.
I've photographed weddings here before, and what I particularly like is the variety. One minute you're photographing completely unplanned moments between guests, the next you're creating something a little more dramatic with the castle as your backdrop. And don't worry, I'm not going to disappear with you for an hour while your champagne gets warm. A few well-chosen minutes in the right light can produce something rather special.
My approach is to let you enjoy your wedding while I quietly capture what's happening, with a little creative direction when it genuinely adds something. Natural photographs, a few unexpected ones, and hopefully some that make you say, "How on earth did you do that?"

One of the joys of photographing a wedding at Hever Castle is that you really don't need to try too hard to find a beautiful background. The castle, the gardens and the occasional swan with an inflated sense of importance are all quite happy to play their part. But for me, the best photographs aren't necessarily the grandest. They're often the little moments in between — a glance, an unexpected laugh, or the two of you escaping the celebrations for five minutes. Hever has a wonderful way of making even those quieter moments look rather special. And if the weather decides not to cooperate? Well, some of my favourite photographs have been taken when the skies had other ideas.
A Little Wedding-Day Advice from Behind the Camera
A little gentle advice if you're planning your wedding at Hever Castle: don't try to squeeze a photograph into every corner of the estate. Tempting though it is, you've invited your guests for a reason, and presumably you'd quite like to see some of them!
I prefer to find two or three wonderful locations, make the most of the available light and let the rest of the day unfold naturally. The gardens can be particularly lovely for relaxed portraits, while the castle itself provides a rather splendid backdrop when we want something with a little more drama.
And if we can slip away for ten minutes later in the afternoon, when the light is softer and everyone's enjoying another glass of champagne, so much the better. Beautiful photographs shouldn't come at the expense of enjoying your own wedding.

Hever Castle has more than enough history and beautiful scenery to keep me entertained, but a wedding isn't really about the building, however beautiful it might be. It's about the people who fill it.
Perhaps The slightly nervous groom, the proud parents trying not to get too emotional, the bridesmaids laughing at something entirely inappropriate and that one guest who somehow appears in every photograph.
Those are the moments I love. The castle provides the setting, but you and your guests provide the story.
My job is to notice the little things, anticipate what's coming and occasionally find a rather unexpected way of photographing it. After all, your wedding photographs should look like your wedding, not somebody else's idea of the perfect day.
